Ufo bro sprang from the fertile mind of singer/guitarist Jim Brandt, an iconoclastic, quasi-intellectual man of thought who's been transplanted and influenced by the disparate places in which, and the people with whom, he's lived (Mohave Desert; Akron, OH; Pomona, CA). Now, with the upcoming release of Utah! by his band Ufo bro, Jim has created a musical and lyrical landscape that opens a pathway into the world in which he lives. Although the vision behind Utah! is clearly Jim's, he's encountered many helpful souls along the course of recording this album.
The early days of Ufo bro were attended to by only Jim and producer Marty Blasick, as the two went quietly about the business of containing the mind of Jim within the house of rock and roll. "It was great working on this project with Marty because creativity and vibe were the ingredients that linked us together" opines Jim. Marty's credits include radio and/or video edits for the likes of Blur, Sneaker Pimps, Geraldine Fibbers and many others.
Ufo bro the band began coalescing during the recording. Shawn Mackoff lent his drum stylings to the standout track Das Scorpion among others. "Live drums are the bomb" says Marty Blasick. Bassist Mark Brookner is an original member of Boston's Orbit (A&M). Guitarist Jon Stewart is also a member of England's platinum selling Sleeper (BMG Arista). Jon says "Ufo bro got my interest because it's an original sound."
The band will be on a West Coast tour during the month of December.
